Types of Health Insurance
The oldest Health Insurance is the Mediclaim Insurance which covers an individual in case of medical contingency. It has got two variants;
Group Medical Insurance which covers a group of people, and the
Family Floater Plan which covers the entire family under one premium.
A third kind or plan in Health Insurance has come up recently is the
Critical Care Plan that gives insurance to the insured against specific illnesses.
Know the difference between Mediclaim Policy & Critical Care Plan
The Simple Mediclaim Policy protects the insured against expenses incurred for hospitalization for any kind of illness/ injury/ diseases. It also includes hospital room and operation theatre charges, diagnostic tests, cost of medicines etc. In a nutshell the insured is protected from risks of illness or diseases or accidental injury.
The Critical Care Policy protects you against certain pre-specified set of major illnesses like heart attack, Cancer etc. It does not include the expenses for other illness or disease.

3. Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)
4. Kidney Failure (End Stage Renal Failure)
5. Major Organ Transplant
6. Stroke

8. Heart Valve Replacement Surgery
9. Multiple Sclerosis
You can also get a Critical Care Rider added to your normal Health Insurance/Mediclaim Policy wherein the Rider will act as an additional benefit in your policy.
